So there I am at work last night. Minding my own business. Being productive. Putting stuff away. I am on my knees on the floor. Not lifting or pushing or pulling anything. I stand up and suddenly feel a pinching in my lower back, just above the tailbone. WHOA!!! I can't stand up straight, it hurts too much. I can't take more than a few steps before I have to stop because it hurts too much. Are you kidding??? I didn't do anything!! One of my coworkers thought that I fell down the ladder. She thought it was a muscle thing but its really not. This is more like pinched nerve. I go sit in the back room and don't move at all and I'm fine. After 20 minutes I start thinking that I'm probably ok now. That's until I stood up again. Bad plan!!! It was too bad. I hollered into the back room for the manager that was there. She came around the corner and gave me the weirdest look. I explained what had happened and that I thought I needed to go home, since I could barely move. She agreed. I called home to give notice that I was on my way and if no one saw me in about 10 minutes to come looking.
I wobbled up to the apartment. I layed on the heating pad for a while. Then I switched to ice for a little bit. All with a Excedrin Back & Body chaser. I was able to sleep fairly well.
Today, its a little sore if I move just the wrong way, so I've been walking pretty slow and avoiding bending. The store manager even called this morning to ask if I was ok. She asked what happened. I tried to tell her "Nothing! All I did was stand up! Who knew!!"
We are down to under 2 days until the race. I'm going to go see how walking on the treadmill goes later after some stretching. And when I'm done I'm going to stretch some more. And more of the hot/cold combo from last night that seemed to work well. I was planning on taking tomorrow off as a rest day anyway before Saturday. Good grief! This couldn't have waited until Sunday?
